A number of football fans are expected to express their frustration at the rising ticket prices within the game on Thursday by protesting outside the Football League and Premier League headquarters in London.
The Football Supporters’ Federation will lead the march as they fear that the cost of watching your team could eventually cause club followings to “die out”.
The lowest priced adult season ticket on average at Premier League clubs is £526, which is a 6.5% rise on last year’s pricing.
“Being a regular football supporter is a habit that’s formed at a young age,” The Independent quotes FSF chief executive Kevin Miles as saying.
“If you keep raising prices, what you’ll get when you look around the ground isn’t what you had when you started, because you’ve priced out the whole generation – you’ve broken that habit. And if the crowds keep ageing, sooner or later they will die out.”
The rising ticket prices in the top flight of English football have been compared to that of the Bundesliga, where champions Bayern Munich charge fans £104 for a season ticket.
